Summary

Event Name:Industrial Visit to TSRTC

Objective: The industrial visit to the TSRTC Bus Depot aimed to familiarize the MBA second-year students with the day-to-day aspects of a public transportation system. The visit offered a firsthand view of the day-to-day activities, challenges, and management practices involved in running a bus depot efficiently.

Outcomes: All the students had an insightful day as they were given the opportunity to learn new things and apply what they had learned in the classroom.

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management - Hyderabad, organized an Industrial visit for Finance, Marketing and Human resources specialization students of theMBA Batch (2022-2024)on 26thAugust2023 to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Hyderabad. The visit aimed to provide students with insights into the day-to-day practices of TSRTC, a state-owned corporation that runs bus transport services to and from the state of Telangana. Upon arrival at TSRTC Bus Depot, Mr. Srinath, the General Manager (GM) of the bus depot, warmly welcomed the students and commenced the visit with a comprehensive introduction.

Upon introduction, students were given a hierarchical structure of the Bus Depot. Mr. Srinath explained all the important points that the bus driver should follow. Subsequently, students were taken to the various sections of the bus depot, starting from the place where the bus driver comes and marks his entry for the day, the next fuel station, bus cleaning station, receiving and submitting the ticketing machine, submission of the collection amount for the day and last the electricals department.

Mr. Srinath started explaining the daily activities of the bus drivers/conductors, more specifically as to how their day should start right from signing the sheet, getting to know the route/bus number, marking their entry in the gate. Mr. Srinath also touched upon the qualifications, salary and other basic details which are required for any person to be a bus driver.

Next, we were taken to the Fuel and washing station. Mr. Srinath explained how and on what basis the petrol will be filled, the total capacity of the bus, efficient fuel management in a transportation.

Next, we went to ticketing and reservation machines and the maintenance unit showcased the maintenance and repair processes of the buses.

Mr. Srinath explained how the ticket issuing machine functions, how the bus drivers/conductors get the machine before starting their day and how they submit the same with the rest of the collection amount etc. Further, we also observed the electrical station where if any repair needs to be made, the busses will get repaired to avoid any inconvenience.

The industrial visit to TSRTC proved to be a highly informative and engaging experience for us. The insights gained during the visit will undoubtedly contribute to the understanding of real-world knowledge in the transportation sector.
