INDUCTION PROGRAM REPORT - 2018
The induction program for the MBA batch of 2018-2020 of SIBM, Hyderabad took place from 18th June 2018 to 24th June 2018. The objective of the Induction Program was to familiarise the students with the Institute, facilitate openness within the batch and industry connect.
Day 1– Monday, 18th June 2018
The inaugural day was 18th June. The day started with the invocation and the lighting of the lamp followed by the Welcome address by the Director, Dr. Ravi Kumar Jain highlighted the achievements of the institute in the last four years. The highlights of the day were the addresses by the esteemed Guest of Honour - Dr. Kamal Taori (IAS Retd.), Former Secretary, Government of India and Shri. Jayesh Ranjan (IAS), Principal Secretary of Industries & Commerce and Information Technology, Departments of the Telangana Government. Dr. Taori stressed on having a social mission while doing business and Shri Jayesh Rangan emphasised on the importance of entrepreneurship. Despite their common IAS backgrounds they both illuminated the importance of conviction and hard work at their respective fields.

The ice-breaking session was conducted by Ms. Nidhi Bandaru and Ms. Sumali Nagarajan. The objectives of the ice-breaking session were to welcome and warm up the new batch to create more space for free communication; Explaining how empty spaces create opportunity for growth; Discussing the power of mind over body; Helping student’s apply the 3-C’s – Collaboration, Communication, and Choice in their everyday life ultimately leading to successful careers. This helped the students get to know each other better and mostly served as a platform for them to interact with faces they didn't know before.
After all the fun and games of the ice-breaking session the day concluded with a football match between both batches. It was meant to serve as a medium to break inhibitions and promote bonding between both the batches.

Day 2– Tuesday, 29th June 2018
The second day of the induction began early in the morning with a yoga session facilitated by Mr. Ashok Vankineni and his team. Yoga has been at the epicentre of the institution's extra-curricular initiatives.

The next event was on a more formal note with an address from our Deputy Director who went on to introduce the faculty and staff members.

The Deputy Director, Dr. K.P. Venugopala Rao who is also the In-Charge of Examination explained the examination system of the university to the students.
Dr. V.K. Satya Prasad, Assistant Professor and In-Charge of Academics interacted with the students to make them aware of the academic framework.
Dr. Rajkumar Pillay, Assistant Professor and In-Charge Research and Publications appraised the students about the importance of research.
Prof. Sunil B, Assistant Professor and In-Charge of the Learning Resource Centre showcased the various learning resources available to students.
Dr. Ramakrishna Dikkatwar, Associate Professor and In-charge of the Symbiosis Centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation discussed the possibilities of students planning to become entrepreneurs.
Dr. Ridhi Rani, Assistant Professor and In-Charge, Women’s Development Cell shared the objectives of the Women’s Development Cell.
After the addresses of all the faculty members, Mr. Nicholas Ross, Head – Corporate Relations and MDP briefed the students about the placement cell and the corporate relations body.
The Campus Administrator, Lt. Col (Retd.) BRG Patil briefed the students about the facilities on campus and discipline.

Day 3– Wednesday, 20th June 2018
The third day of the induction program for the MBA batch of 2018-2020 was dominated by sessions from industry experts.
The day commenced with yoga session by Mr. Ashok Vankineni and his team. This witnessed active participation from both students and staff alike.
A workshop on Audio Visual pedagogy was conducted by Prof. Sunil B.
Mr. Kiran Billigiri, Managing Director, Utsav Group of Hotels gave a speech on his journey. He provided valuable insights on pragmatic thinking.

Day 4– Thursday, 21st June 2018
The fourth day of induction coincided with the International Yoga day. The Yoga day activity was conducted by Mr. NVV Satyanarayana and Team, trainers at Bodhi Yoga Institute. All the staff and students of SIBM-Hyderabad, SLS-Hyderabad, and the Symbiosis Society actively participated in this event.

Later in the day, Mr. Emmanuel Gosala and Mr. Shanti Kumar from EPAM. They talked to the students about their work life balance. Mr Shanti Kumar, Director, Workforce planning and Management at EPAM talked the students about work ethics and importance of planning everything ahead. The session was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
Day 5– Friday, 22nd June 2018
The fifth day started with a healthy and refreshing session of yoga. The Dean Emeritus of Indian School of Business, Prof. M Rammohan Rao, addressed the students. He shared his valuable experience with the audience which would prove helpful for the budding managers moving forward in their future endeavours. Prof. Umeshwar Pandey, Director of Centre for Organizational Development had graced the occasion with his presence. He provided the nuances of dealing with organisational development. This session instilled inspiration amongst the gathering.

Mr. Vidhya Sagar from CARE ratings was the next speaker. This session was very informative and provided insights into the world of ratings. Mr. Peter Samuel of Berkadia shared his wisdom in the field of management of various resources and the importance of decision-making techniques and impact.
Day 6 & Day 7 – Saturday, 23rd June 2018 & Sunday, 24th June 2018
On Day 6 there was a session by Mr. Vijaya Kumar of Mahindra Finance who spoke about the career prospects in the financial services sector.
The students then headed for the outbound activity to Deccan trails, Vikarabad.

Students were divided into three groups. Each group was further divided into 4-5 teams depending upon the activity. Each of the 3 groups had 1-2 senior faculties and each team had a trainer along with them to check the safety, fouls committed, etc. The faculty used to take notes of what the students are doing during the activity. Each activity was of 50 mins following which the senior faculty used to conduct a debriefing session in open classrooms and ask students what they learned from the activity. The debriefing session used to last for 20-30 mins. Each activity was a team activity.
Outdoor activities and Bon-fire
The challenging tasks brought out the true personalities amongst the students. Students learnt strategy development, planning and leadership at the outdoor activity.
