Mr. Udaya Shanker Jupudi, a Fellow of Insurance Institute of India, having over 25 years of experience in non-life insurance, was invited for a guest Lecture on the topic- Insurance and risk management in logistics. He started the lecture with a question on “what is the difference between insurance and assurance?” and explained the difference in life insurance and non-life insurance, it’s implications in risk coverage.He went on with discussing more about the non-insurance types and the basic principles of insurance -
- Insurable interest
- Principle of Indemnity
- Principle of Subrogation
- Principle of Contribution
- Proximate cause
- Principle of utmost good faith
He gave us a complete understanding of these principles by providing live examples for the same.
He has shown us mathematical calculation of how an insurance claims are calculated, risks involved in ware houses, marine, and road transport, standard fire and perils only policy, terms and clauses of insurance policy, cargo loss control/prevention and risk management.
The lecture also had live case studies which gave a much detailed exposure to the insurance practices followed by the companies. Out and out, the lecture was very comprehensive and was a great value addition to the attendees.
Learning outcome:- Students have got the first hand information on non-life insurance policies and risk coverage in Logistics with couple of case examples and it was good learning for students.
