Event Name: Workshop on Sensitization on (POSH) Protection of women from Sexual Harassment Act, 2013

Objective: To create awareness among aspiring youngsters and managers about sexual harassment.
Outcome: Gained ample amount of knowledge regarding such sensitive topic and implementing it in real life.
The Report
Symbiosis Hyderabad have been regularly conducting events related to gender sensitization for creating an awareness among the students and also make the students responsible towards themselves and also as socially responsible corporate leaders.
Taking this forward, Symbiosis International (Deemed) University, in collaboration with SIBM Hyderabad, SLS Hyderabad and SCMS Hyderabad organized a workshop for the staff and students with regard to Sensitization on prevention of sexual harassment and awareness regarding the provisions of the act.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Shyam Sunder Chitta, Deputy Director, SIBM Hyderabad which was followed by felicitation for the honorable guests.
Ms. Kamaxi Sambari started her speech by introducing the POSH law, and describing how its implications are on women in the workplace. Ms Sambari further explained that sexual harassment does not only take place with women as the victims, she explained that it is a power game.

Moving ahead the chief guest of the day, Dr. Rama Devi Gudemela, a Member of the Child Welfare Committee, Department of Women and Child Development, Telangana State. She is specialized in International law, POSH Law and Child Rights. She has 14 years of extensive research, teaching, and legal industry experience. A Gold medallist from Osmania University, topping the University for Bachelor's in law.
Dr. Rama Devi has addressed on the sexual harassment at workplace of women and focused on the prevention, prohibition and redressal of these issues as per the act 2013. She further educated the students on how the policy works and what are its implications at workplace. She then discussed Vishakha case through which she has informed the students on the importance of the work place equality and work place safety.
Dr. Rama has also informed the students that how POSH Act training is mandatory to create awareness. She also mentioned that intention is secondary, the impact is primary.’
Dr. Anuradha Binnuri, Deputy Director, SLS, Hyderabad informing the students regarding how the university also maintains an ICC Committee which is designed for all the staff and students. She stressed on the importance of this committee to provide a safe environment to the its employees and students.

Overall, the students of SIU were grateful to learn information and details regarding the POSH Act’s through the guests. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ridhi Rani, Faculty in charge of Shakti, the women development and social responsibility cell, SIBM Hyderabad.
The students through this workshop gained ample amount of knowledge regarding the provisions of the POSH ACT and also what are the steps to be taken if any such incidents happen at the workplace and at the University campus.25th of November has been observed by the university Hyderabad campus as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
