Summary
Event Name: Anti-Ragging Awareness Week
Anti-Ragging Awareness Week is an essential initiative undertaken by SIBM Hyderabad to address and prevent the concerning issue of ragging in educational institutions. The Anti-Ragging Awareness Week at SIBM Hyderabad is the institution's commitment to maintaining a space where every student feels secure and valued with an aim to educate and create awareness among students about the effects of ragging and the importance of cultivating a safe and respectful campus environment. The week was filled with a variety of events that encouraged active student participation and engagement, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect.
Poster Making Competition:
Poster Making Competition was conducted during the week. The competition was open to all students, and participants were tasked with creating posters on the theme of anti-ragging, which could be made either online or offline. This competition provided students with an opportunity to express their thoughts creatively while promoting the anti-ragging message. The central theme of the competition was to highlight the harmful effects of ragging and promoted the values of respect and unity among students. The theme was broad enough to allow for a wide range of creative interpretations, encouraging participants to think deeply about the issue and how best to communicate their message.
The posters were judged based on creativity, relevance to the theme, visual appeal, and the effectiveness of the message. Originality in the design, the clarity of the message, and the overall impact of the poster was what looked for. Whether the posters were hand-drawn or digitally created, what mattered most was how powerfully they conveyed the anti-ragging message.
12 August: Monday – Event: Aikyam 1.0
The week kicked off with "Aikyam 1.0," an event organized by the Dauntless Club. Held on Monday in the Academic Block, "Aikyam," which means unity, set a positive tone for the week by emphasizing the importance of solidarity and mutual respect among students.
13 August: Tuesday – Event: Nukkad Natak
On Tuesday, the Discipline and Anti-Ragging Committee (DARC) collaborated with Antardhwani, the cultural club to present a compelling street play titled "Nukkad Natak." The act highlighted the devastating impact of ragging on individuals, showing how it can ruin lives and careers. The emotional performance deeply resonated with the audience and served as a powerful reminder of the need for a ragging-free campus environment.
14 August: Wednesday – Event: ARJUNA
Wednesday featured a first-time collaboration between DARC and Dauntless for the event "ARJUNA," an acronym standing for Anti-Ragging, Respect, Justice, Unity, Noble, Action. This event was designed to be both educational and physically engaging, consisting of two rounds that challenged participants' coordination, communication, and teamwork. ARJUNA was designed to be a multi-faceted event that tested participants’ physical and mental agility, while also reinforcing the principles of trust, teamwork, and strategy.
-Round 1:
In the first round, participants, blindfolded, had to navigate a maze without touching glasses filled with water, guided only by verbal instructions from their teammate. The guiding teammate had to give clear, precise instructions to help their partner avoid the obstacles and penalties. This round highlighted the importance of trust and clear communication.
-Round 2:
The second round was a hopscotch challenge where two teams competed simultaneously. After the hopscotch round, the teams moved on to the XO game, where they played tic-tac-toe with a twist. Instead of a regular board, the game was life-sized, requiring participants to physically place their marks on the grid. This added an element of physical exertion and quick decision- making, as teams had to not only strategize but also move quickly to secure their position. This round emphasized strategic thinking and teamwork.
Medal Distribution:
The medal distribution for the winners of the ARJUNA and Aikyam events, took place during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15th. This special occasion added a significant layer of meaning to the awards ceremony, as it highlighted the connection between the values of freedom, respect, and justice that are celebrated on Independence Day and the principles promoted during Anti-Ragging Awareness Week. The ceremony not only recognized the efforts of the participants but also reinforced the broader message of unity and respect that underpinned both the anti- ragging initiatives and the spirit of Independence Day.
Conclusion:
The Anti-Ragging Awareness Week at SIBM Hyderabad was a resounding success, with each event effectively communicating the importance of maintaining a ragging-free campus. The active participation and collaboration among various clubs and committees demonstrated a collective commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for all students.
