Constitution Day, also known as “Samvidhan Divas” is celebrated in India on 26th November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 19th November 2015 notified the decision of Government of India to celebrate the 26th day of November every year as 'Constitution Day' to promote Constitution values among citizens.

It pays tribute to the framers of the Constitution, recognizing their dedication and vision. The day promotes constitutional awareness, especially among students, emphasizing the values embedded in the document. Constitution Day serves as a reminder of democratic principles, the rule of law, and the protection of fundamental rights, encouraging citizens to actively participate in upholding these ideals. It fosters a sense of national identity by reflecting on the shared constitutional heritage, making it a significant occasion for honoring India's democratic foundation.

Every year, a number of activities aimed at highlighting and reiterating the values and principles enshrined in the constitution as part of the celebration. An important part of the celebration is reading the Preamble to the Constitution and reaffirming our commitment to uphold its ideology. A provision has also been made on MyGov portal to 'Read the preamble' online and other activities including talks/ webinars on Constitutional values and fundamentals of the Indian Constitution may also be organized.

Importance of the Constitution Day of India:

- Commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India on November 26, 1949.

- Pays tribute to the visionaries and framers of the Constitution.

- Promotes constitutional awareness and literacy among citizens.

- Fosters a deeper understanding of rights, duties, and constitutional values.

- Reinforces commitment to democratic ideals, rule of law, and individual liberties.

- Encourages active citizen participation in upholding the constitutional fabric.

Objective of the event

The objective of the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India is to create a meaningful and hands-on experience that goes beyond just understanding the theory. This effort aims to build a strong connection between students and the essential ideas of our democracy, intending to nurture a heightened sense of personal responsibility and ethical leadership. By actively involving the students in this ceremonial activity, the ultimate objective is to develop a deep and lasting appreciation for the key principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, seamlessly integrating these values into their professional identities. The strategic intent is to infuse the MBA program with a solid ethical foundation, producing graduates who excel not only in their specialized areas but also remain committed to making significant contributions to the well-being of society. This underscores the crucial importance of constitutional values in the complex realm of business leadership, ushering in an era of conscientious and socially aware managerial expertise. Thus, we encourage our students to read the Preamble on My Gov Portal to ‘Read the Preamble’ (https://pledge.mygov.in/constitution-day/) and to take the Pledge for the same.
