The Human Resources Club of SIBM-H Humanalaya conducted a Guest Lecture on the topic “Competency-Based Human Resource Management (CBHRM0 for the HR speciaization students of MBA Batch 2023- 25 on 3 rd of August 2024. The guest lecturer for the session was Mr. Shivanand Mohan, a seasoned expert in L&D, Talent Management, and Organizational Development from MSN, offering valuable insights applicable to our HR aspirations. He has successfully provided a comprehensive overview of this strategic approach and its implications for modern day organizations functioning on a practical level.

Mr. Mohan initiated the discussion by providing a clear definition of competencies as the amalgam of knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) that differentiate high performers. He emphasized the importance of behavioral aspects in competency assessment & how it is the observable actions that truly distinguish individuals.

The central theme of the lecture was the newly developed MSN Labs booklet outlining eight leadership behavioral competencies. These competencies, crucial for effective leadership, are divided into four proficiency levels: Basic, Proficient, Experienced, and Expert.

Effectiveness vs. Efficiency

Mr. Mohan emphasized the distinction between effectiveness and efficiency. While efficiency focuses on optimizing processes and resources, effectiveness centers on achieving desired outcomes. He stressed that both are crucial for organizational success, but effectiveness often takes precedence.

Resources are the inputs used to create outcomes. Relationships are the connections between people or entities that facilitate the use of resources. Effective relationships optimize resource utilization,leading to desired results.

He stated that the individual demonstrates exceptional abilities in three key leadership areas i.e. Lead self, Lead others & Lead business
