THE REPORT

We, the students of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Hyderabad, batch 2024- 2026, had visited T-Works on 25 th and 26 th of July,2024 from 12:30PM-5:00PM. It was a two- day industrial visit organized in two batches. The aim of the visit was to gain practical exposure on operations related to manufacturing sector. T- Works is India’s largest fully integrated hardware prototyping centre. It’s an initiative of the government of Telangana, aims to create and celebrate a culture of hobbyists, makers and innovators in India; who explores and experiment without the fear of failure. It has accommodated 8 workshops, and 2 others are being set up in the near future, which are as follows:

1. Metal shop:

  • The metal shop is a one-stop solution for all machining, fabrication, and inspection requirements.
  • This workshop has CNC fibre laser cutting for sheets and tubes, a CNC press brake, precision welding technologies, CNC 5-axis milling, a CNC Y-axis lathe, CNC tube bending, flow drilling, servo tapping, a manual mill, a manual lathe, and precision metrology equipment. It is also equipped with hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools to facilitate assembly operations.

2. Advanced Rapid Prototyping:

  • A designated space for some of the best equipment in its class.
  • The Zund G3 digital cutter and Formech vacuum forming machine enable one to explore different materials to build prototypes faster and more efficiently. From making prototypes of furniture for a designer to making plastic moulds for a baker, this space opens up opportunities for makers, hobbyists, and designers.

3. 3D printing:

  • The shop currently has FDM and SLA printers, which allow users to choose from a wide variety of materials with different material properties, resolutions, and end applications. With high-end SLA printers, one can get prototypes that resemble injection-moulded or vacuum cast parts.
  • The design is brought to life layer by layer, enabling the creation of complex geometry and reducing waste material.

4. Electronics lab:

  • One can access cutting, crimping, holding, and soldering tools. Instruments such as benchtop power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, source metres, LCR metres, logic analyzers, and 3-phase power analyzers are available.
  • Multiple zones, such as the Precision Soldering Zone, PCB Assembly Zone, Workbench Zone, and Spot-Welding Zone, are designed to aid users.

5. Testing lab:

  • Vibrate, shock, heat, and cool are the primary functions of this workshop.
  • There is an electrodynamic vibration system and a universal testing machine. This equipment will enable the users to quantify and characterise our prototypes and parts so that they can iterate faster and more efficiently.

6. Ceramic studio:

  • This workshop makes figurines, artwork, and miniatures with clay that are durable.
  • There is pottery-making machinery being used for precision.

7. Laser cutting and engraving:

  • The laser cutting and engraving shop at T-Works can cut and engrave various plastics and woods. The shop is equipped with 80 and 120w Co2-based laser cutters with a maximum bed size of 900mm x 1200mm, capable of cutting materials up to 12mm thick.
  • With laser cutting, quick prototypes of enclosures and assemblies can be made with parametric joinery and kerf bending techniques.

8. PCB LAB and Finish Shopare setting up soon.

9. Wood shop:

  • The wood shop is equipped with woodworking tools, machines, furniture, and accessories to facilitate working with both solid and sheet stock. There is a flagship machine in the wood shop, which is a 5'x10' 3-axis CNC wood router equipped with vacuum work holding and an automatic tool changer. It can chew through wood and non-ferrous metals.
  • By accessing this and other machines to work on furniture projects, art pieces, and anything that involves wood.
