The orientation session served as a valuable guide for those interested in building a finance career and students who have yet to decide their career path. Students gained a comprehensive understanding of finance and its various career paths. They gained clarity on the importance of aligning personal skills and goals with the right finance roles for career growth.
On 21st September 2024 at the Lecture Theatre (LT) we had the session on "Career in Finance" which provided an in-depth understanding of the financial industry, offering guidance on financial management, market dynamics, job profiles, and emerging trends in the field. It was delivered by Sahil Bathla, a Manager at Oxane Partners, where he leads the Asset Backed Lending PMG vertical. with extensive experience working with the CRE team of Oak North Investment Bank, Sahil has gained deep insights into portfolio financing from the perspective of an investment bank, making him well-versed in both traditional and emerging trends in finance.
The session began by introducing finance as a field that deals with the management of large sums of money and its vital role in business, government, and the economy. Understanding the basics of financial markets was emphasized as a cornerstone for building a successful finance career. The session also covered the significance of fintech profiles like data analytics, which have become crucial as technology reshapes financial services.
The orientation session, aimed at guiding students in selecting their specialization, began with the speaker posing a thought-provoking question: “What does specialization mean for an individual?” This led to a discussion on whether finance or marketing is more important for a firm. The speaker emphasized that the decision should be based on personal interests rather than external influence.
